Manual tasks and physical health assessment

The AlphaOne manual handling and fitness assessment compares specific areas of upper, middle and lower body strength, fitness and flexibility with the physical demands of the job. Based upon this assessment, employees are assigned the patent pending and trademarked AlphaOne Code of Fitness.

 

Physical demands analysis and company needs assessment

This component aims to engage the workforce and build support for the program, understand historical and organizational issue to be addressed, and benchmark characteristics of the workplace and workforce.

 

SmartMoves team learning series

A series of team learning sessions called Health Forums raise awareness and literacy on key OHS and manual handling issues. Topics include:

  • The links between personal health, safety and injury management
  • The ageing process and fitness
  • Using the AlphaOne Code of Fitness
  • Back reconditioning exercises
  • Analysis of work tasks
  • 'Hands on' practice and instruction in safe manual handling
  • Techniques to stabilize and protect joints, especially the back, neck, shoulders and hips
  • Applying the SmartMoves principals to specific work tasks

 

Healthy Work Environment program

Healthy changes to employee behaviour and attitudes are supported by changes to the work environment, including:

  • Healthy work environment audit
  • Policy review and recommendations
  • Poster series for each health forum
  • Work-based exercises to prevent injury and fatigue

  • Links with local fitness, recreation and sports facilities
